We’re In This Together!
Ephesians 4:1-5 (ESV)
“I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— one Lord, one faith, one baptism,”
Someone has said,“life is not a sprint, but a marathon. Someone else has said,”life is a journey of peaks and valleys, twists and turns.” Whatever life might not be or might be, one thing is sure, life can’t be travailed alone! At some juncture in a person life, he or she
will need someone to help them out; give them an opportunity to display their skill set; walk with them through a life altering event or someone to say to them, you’re
not alone, we’re in this together!
After reminding the Christians at Ephesus of the spiritual blessings that they have in Jesus Christ in chapters 1 through 3, the Apostle Paul in Ephesians 4:1-5 reminds them of the common bond that they also have in Jesus Christ. If no other people group on the face of earth understand that they are in it together, Christians ought to understand that they have been called to do life together and they are to work hard to preserve their togetherness.
In verses three through six, Paul list seven reasons why Christians ought to maintain togetherness and adopt the attitude that we’re in this together! God created his children to live in community, not in isolation. And they’re expected to help out one another; walk with one another through life altering events or say to one another that we’re in this thing together. It’s encouraging to know that your fellow brothers and sisters in the household of faith will have your back! What are you willing to do to maintain the togetherness of your church community? When was the last time that you told someone one, we’re in this thing together?
God, help me to value the unity of my community and demonstrate that we’re in this together, Amen!
