It Takes A Village 40 Day Lenten Devotional #14

       Do Good!
            Galatians 6:10 (ESV)
“So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.”
The mark of maturing Christians is seen in their ability to do good to everyone regardless of their relationship. Paul underscored this truth in Galatians 6:10 when he exhorted Christians in Galatia to do good to everyone in general and to the household(Christians) of faith in particular. Their will be God opportunities to help others; bless others; share the gospel with others; meet the felt and spiritual needs of others; love on others; encourage others; invest in the lives of others; sacrifice for others and Christians must take full advantage of them!
The exhortation to do good flows out of the believers relationship with God who is the epitome of goodness. Acts of goodness is evidence of a persons union with Jesus Christ. Manifest goodness is linked to the character of Christ
While acts of goodness should be directed towards everyone, Paul is emphatic that they should be directed towards other Christians   even more so. It’s not a good look for Christians to be and do good to others and neglect to be and do good to one another! Charity begins at home. Christians ought to do good even more so to other Christians because they are in union with Jesus Christ together!
When was the last time you did something good for someone else in general and your fellow brother and sister in Christ in particular? The next time you have an opportunity to do good, do good!
God, help me to take advantage of every opportunity to do good to all men, but especially to my brothers and sisters in Christ, Amen!
