Never Too Busy for Prayer !
James 5:16-18 (ESV)
“Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit.”
A sign on a desk read, “If you’re too busy to pray, you’re too busy.” Christians ought to never be so busy that they cannot engage in intercessory prayer for saints or sinners. If Christians cannot do anything else for one another, they ought to be able to pray one for another. Christians that know the power and importance of prayer will pray for their fellow brothers and sisters in Christ!
James exhorted Christians in his day to intercede for one another. To illustrate the power of prayer, James pointed to the prophet, Elijah who prayed and it stopped raining for three and a half years and then he prayed again and it begin raining again. James helps us to never underestimate the power and significance of prayer.
Prayer is essential, beneficial and effective to the Christian journey. James teaches us that prayer can bring healing to the lives of those being prayed for. Prayer helps to set the atmosphere for healing and confession to be experienced in Christian community! Friend, when was the last time that you prayed for healing to take place in the life of another person? Don’t ever get so busy that you can’t pray, because someone’s healing is tied to your prayer!
God help me to never get so busy that I can’t stop and pray to you or intercede for the healing of my brothers and sisters in Christ, Amen!
