It Takes A Village 40 Day Lenten Devotional-Day #7

        Through Thick and Thin!
            Proverbs 17:17 (ESV)
“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”
‭‭
A British publication once offered a prize for the best definition of a friend. Among the thousands of answers received were the following:  A friend is…

“One who multiplies joys, divides grief, and whose honesty is sacred.” A friend is…
“One who understands your silence.” A friend is…
“A volume of sympathy bound in cloth.” A friend is…
“A watch that beats true for all time and never runs down.”
However, the winning definition read thusly: “A friend is the one who is always there when the rest of the world walks away.”

Finding a solitary friend that’s loyal, true, loving and supportive through life’s up’s and downs is a priceless  commodity. Everybody needs a friend they can count on to be present with them on their journey of life. This is the wisdom that Solomon handed down to his son in Proverbs 17:17. Solomon understands that his son would succeed him as king, exhorted him to choose friends that would love him no matter what and who would stick with through difficult times.
David and Jonathan shared this kind of relationship. They shared a friendship that lasted through deep difficulties (I Samuel 19-20)
True friends will see you for who God intended you be and push you towards your divine destiny!
Friends like David and Jonathan supported and challenged each other for each others own good.
While Jesus is the ultimate best friend that anyone can have, he or she needs a friend that we’re in this together. Find you a friend that will love you at all times and who walk faithfully through life’s adverse circumstances with you! To find such a friend requires you to be that kind of friend in return.
God, thank you for the friends that you’ve placed in my life who love me at all times and under all circumstances. God send me a friend who will love me and stick with me through thick and thin, Amen!
